Metagenics P-Lift 30 tablets
Directions: Metagenics P-Lift
Adults: Take 1 tablet once daily with food.
Clinical Benefits: Metagenics P-Lift
- Metagenics P-Lift contains Vitex agnus-castus and vitamin B6 which assist in the management and relief of PMS symptoms such as breast tenderness, tiredness, moodiness, headaches, bloating and fluid retention.5 Vitamin B6 may help relieve emotional symptoms of PMS via its action as a cofactor for several neurotransmitters involved in mood regulation.6 Vitamin B6 has also been shown to manage fluid retention by assisting in the production of dopamine which has a dampening effect on aldosterone.7 Vitex relieves PMS symptoms by binding to dopamine receptors and inhibiting prolactin.1 Elevated prolactin may inhibit corpus luteal development, reducing the secretion of progesterone in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle.
- A clinical trial of 1634 PMS patients taking Vitex agnus-castus over three menstrual cycles showed 93% as reporting a significant decrease or total cessation of their PMS symptoms (Figure One).5 The symptoms that decreased include headaches, tiredness, moodiness, breast tenderness, bloating and fluid retention.5
- Vitex and ginger relieve menstrual pain.8 A double-blind comparative trial on 150 patients with dysmenorrhoea compared the effects of 1.0 g of ginger against two prescription medications. The study found this amount of ginger to be as effective as the prescription medicines at relieving menstrual pain.9 This is likely due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-prostaglandin actions.9

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Metagenics P-Lift
Below is the advice regarding pregnancy. It can be used in the early stage if there is low progesterone and if pregnancy happens whilst taking P-Lift it should not be abruptly discontinued and can be slowly reduced depending upon the person because a sudden drop in progesterone is not good in early pregnancy.
Pregnancy
Contraindicated
Generally not for use in pregnancy except under the supervision of a qualified health practitioner.[203] There are references to Withania as an ‘abortifacient’ and a ‘pregnancy tonic.’ The strength or accuracy of this information is difficult to assess given the lack of detail. It may be that low doses pose little danger; however, clinicians should discuss the strengths and limitations of the evidence when counselling about its use in pregnancy.[204]
Western texts urge caution in pregnancy due to a reputed abortifacient activity and antifertility effects notes in early animal studies, despite there being no evidence of fetal damage. Note that Withania is used to support pregnancy and lactation in the ayurvedic tradition.[205]
The hormonal effects of chaste tree might adversely affect pregnancy.[206] In practice, some herbalists use chaste tree at their discretion during early pregnancy in cases of insufficient corpus luteal function and in women with a history of prior miscarriages.[207],[208],[209]
Breastfeeding
Caution
Chaste tree has traditionally been used as a galactagogue. No recent human or animal studies on the safety of chaste tree during lactation were identified, although a review of human studies indicated that chaste tree may decrease prolactin secretion.[210],[211] Therefore, monitoring is advisable.
Note: Make note of patients’ total daily intake of selenium. The upper tolerable limit of selenium per day during lactation is 400 µg. Consider a patient’s total daily intake from all sources.[212]
