Directions
Adults:
Take 1 tablet twice daily for the relief of cold sore symptoms.
Take 1 tablet daily to help reduce the recurrence of cold sores.
Benefits
- May reduce the symptoms, frequency and recurrence of cold sores: Metagenics Viraclear contains nutrients that have been shown to reduce the symptoms and severity of cold sore lesions and reduce cold sore recurrence.1,2 Vitamin C may inhibit herpes simplex virus-1 through its role in the formation of dehydroascorbic acid and its ability to inhibit certain kinases and enzymes involved in viral replication.3 Zinc has been shown to inactivate herpes simplex virus-1 by inhibiting the maturation of capsid proteins, hindering their use as structural components of the HSV-1 virus.4 Additionally, astragalus is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to maintain healthy immune function and may also assist in strengthening the immune system.5
- A double blind study has shown lysine to suppress the clinical manifestations of cold sores in 38 patients with recurring herpes infection. The pain of the cold sores subsided significantly overnight and reduced the formation of new vesicles, accelerating recovery and suppressing recurrence. The mechanism exerted by lysine to relieve the symptoms of cold sores is through inhibiting the replication of herpes simplex virus-1. This is by competing with arginine which is required for HSV-1 replication.
