Clinical Benefits: Metagenics Glutagenics
Protective effect on gastrointestinal mucosa and gut integrity: Glutamine protects the integrity of the intestinal tract by reducing mucosal permeability and increasing secretory IgA sIgA) secretion and therefore inhibiting the adherence and translocation of gram negative bacteria.5,9 In addition, glutamine and zinc exert action on the tight junctions of the intestines, regulating the junction integrity.10,11
Glutamine reduces mucosal permeability and regulates the PI3-Kinase/Akt pathway while zinc is involved in the organisation of tight junction and adherens junction proteins.9,5,10,11
Aloe vera has been used traditionally for its protective effects on the gastric mucosa. This is possibly due to its inhibition of the inflammatory mediators PGE2 and IL8.7
