- Healthy immune care: Astragalus has been traditionally used in Chinese medicine for the management of upper respiratory tract infections by enhancing immunity.3,4 Zinc and vitamin D also help to maintain and support healthy immune function.5,6 Zinc is essential for normal development and function of neutrophils and natural killer cells as well as affecting the development of acquired immunity and T-lymphocyte function.7 Vitamin D may enhance the first line of defence against invading microorganisms via up-regulation of innate immunity.8
- May reduce the severity of URTI's: Vitamin C may help to reduce the severity of upper respiratory tract infections while eyebright has been traditionally used in Western herbal medicine for catarrh of the ear, nose and throat as well as relief of runny noses and nasal congestion.2,9,10 The saponins in liquorice root may also assist catarrhal conditions by decreasing the viscosity of mucous and exerting an expectorant effect, assisting the relief of bronchial congestion.11,12
